Phase-I Tasks: Fly to Space

This phase is preliminary competition. There are 3 sub-tasks to complete in the first stage to ensure the rocket can lift off. The total score of this stage is 100 points.

Mission 1

Background:

You and MatataBot have arrived at the space base, making the final preparations before departure. A three-stage rocket is needed to launch the spacecraft into space, and each stage needs to ignite precisely! Only after all three stages of the rocket are ignited will the ship have enough power to fly into space. Join MatataBot for a wonderful space exploration!

Task:

  1.  Make a 3*8 grid map, with each grid measuring 10cm*10cm. You are encouraged to use materials available at home.Rows B, D and F of the map should be marked in red, yellow and green, as shown in the figure.
  2. Creatively decorate and transform MatataBot to a rocket.
  3. Tangible coding: code MatataBot to travel in a rocket from row A to row H, with its makes different sounds as it passes through rows B, D, and F, respectively.
  4. The program should be designed to stop when the robot reaches row H.

Score items:

  • Creative decoration of robots and design of maps (1~10 points)
  • Successfully ignited the three-stage rocket (10 points)
  • MatataBot's rocket successfully reached row H, and most of the robot's body was in row H (10 points)

Mission 2

Background:

You and MatataBot enter Earth orbit in a spaceship and begin your voyage to the International Space Station. In the process, the ship orbits the Earth.

Task:

  1.  Build a space scene map
  2. Make a model of the Earth and place it in the middle of the scene;
  3. Simulate the flight of a spaceship around the Earth through tangible coding.

Score items:

  • Design of prop models and maps (1~15 points)
  • Successfully completed the simulation of the spacecraft circling the earth three times (15 points)

Mission 3

Background:

You and the MatataBot are activating the ship's booster to fly to the orbit where the International Space Station is located. Please approach the ISS slowly and complete the docking.

Task:

  1.  Make a model of the International Space Station and place it in designated locations.
  2. Simulate docking scenarios using magnets.
  3. Code the Matata spacecraft to depart from A1 on an automatic voyage to the International Space Station to complete the docking mission.

Score items:

  • Design of prop models and magnet material installation (20 points)
  • MatataBot spacecraft successfully docked with international space station (20 points)
